Areas of Expertise

Real Estate

We help nonprofit groups and local, state and federal agencies acquire property from willing sellers to protect open space, wildlife habitat, public recreation areas, river corridors and historic places. We act as a trusted broker, facilitating transactions to protect critical conservation lands or to dispose of surplus real estate to generate revenue for conservation. Our expertise in real estate guarantees the efficient use of contributed funds and the most effective conservation outcomes. Learn more about how we apply our expertise through our land and water conservation services.

Community and Economic Development

Along with our partners, we use vision, investment and leadership skills to revitalize small towns in underserved areas, preserve the local character of gateway communities and finance promising natural resource-based businesses. Learn more about how we pursue community and economic development.

Training and Education

Building the knowledge and capacity of conservation leaders is critical to achieving local, regional and national conservation goals. Since 1998, our Conservation Leadership Network (CLN), an alliance of non-governmental, public and private sector partners, has trained professionals committed to conservation. Through courses, workshops, seminars and conferences, the Network provides an important vehicle for developing a more effective American conservation community. Learn more about how we provide training and education opportunities for conservation leaders.

Conservation Finance

Financing is critical to achieving conservation goals. Our Revolving Fund and the Natural Capital Investment Fund provide critical resources for land conservation and rural small business development. Learn more about our conservation finance programs.

Land Advisory and Conservation Planning

Our Land Advisory and Conservation Planning services provide customized tools for foundations, corporations, federal and state agencies, land trusts, and local governments to achieve their conservation objectives.
